The commemorative coins are dedicated to pysanka-making art (Easter egg decoration) being a striking example of creative work in Ukrainian traditional art and having peculiar ornamentation patterns and scales of colours in each ethnographic region of Ukraine.

On the coin obverseabove there are the Small National Emblem of Ukraine and semicircular inscription ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of Ukraine), below against the background of rushnyky (Ukrainian embroidered towels) there is  the composition of a dish with the pysanky decorated with vegetational and geometrical ornamentation patterns peculiar to different regions of Ukraine; below there is the legend 20/ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ/2009 (20 hryvnias).

 

On the coinreversethe coin circumference is decorated with a pysanka-like ornamentation pattern whose inner contour line forms the egg in the middle whereof there is a composition – a woman (pysanka maker) ornamenting an egg and a sitting girl observing her; on the ornamental circumference there are the legends: ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÑÜÊÀ (Ukrainian) on the left and ÏÈÑÀÍÊÀ (pysanka);

 

On the coin observeabove against the dark background there are the Small National Emblem of Ukraine (on the left) and a fragment of a pysanka, below against the light background there are the coin face value 5 ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (5 hryvnias) and issue year 2009 together with a fragment of a pysanka, the dark and light parts are separated by the conventionalized legend ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of Ukraine).

 

On the coin reversebelow there is depicted an Easter still life – on the rushnyk (embroidered towel characteristic of Ukraine) there is a paska (Easter bread) with a candle thereon encircled with eggs; over them there is the conventionalized legend ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÑÜÊÀ ÏÈÑÀÍÊÀ (Ukrainian pysanka); above there is a pysanka between the pysanka ornamentation patterns peculiar to Lemkivshchyna (Lemkos inhabited area), Bukovina, Hutsulshchyna (Hutsuls inhabited districts), etc.
