The coin is dedicated to
the Year of the Rat, one of the animal-symbols of the Chinesel calendar, which is
based on the twelve year cycle of the Jupiter, the largest planet of the Solar
system.

On the coin obverse
within
setting made of a conventionalized vegetable ornamentation there
are inscriptions:ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ/ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ/ 5/ ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (National Bank /of
Ukraine/ 5/ Hryvnia); above there is the small
National
Emblem of Ukraine, beneath: 2008, the coin issue year, as well as
Ag 925, the designation of metal; 15,55g, its weight in fineness and the NBU Mint logotype.

On the coin reverse
there is depicted a rat made in a technique of a cheap popular print within
a vegetable ornamentation setting (a rat's eye is decorated with 0,01carat
diamond). Both above and below this
composition there is a depiction of contour figures of all 12 symbols of the
Oriental calendar.
