The jubilee coin is dedicated to the creative work of N.Gogol (Ukr. - Mykola
Hohol) who made a poetical image of the Ukrainian people and with an
extraordinary artistic skill exposed the original Ukrainian character with
the sense of humour habitual for it. The lyrical representation of Ukraine
made by him in “Evenings on a Farm Near Dykanka” will always remain an
integral part of the European literature. The subject of one of the most
outstanding stories of this collection, i.e. “Christmas Eve”, is the
leitmotif of the coin composition.
|
On the obversethere is a circular grotesque composition “the
story-teller and listeners” consisting of “Evenings on a Farm Near Dykanka”
characters; in its centre there is a portrait of N.Gogol with a quill pen in
the hand; above there are the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the
semicircular inscription ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of
Ukraine); beneath there is the legend 50 ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ (50 hryvnias).
|
|
On the reversethere
is a circular grotesque composition illustrating the “Christmas Eve” story;
in the centre there is the Christmas Star with the candle in the middle
thereof whose flame is imitated by the yellow sapphire. Under the Star
there is the semicircular inscription Í²× ÏÅÐÅÄ Ð²ÇÄÂÎÌ (Night before
Christmas).
