The commemorative coin is devoted to Les Kurbas (1887-1937), a prominent
stage director, actor, educator, playwright and translator. Les (Oleksandr-Zenon)
Stepanovych Kurbas was a theatre figure, whose creative work was influenced
by expressionism and constructivism, the founder of the Ukrainian modern
theatre “Berezil”.

On the coin obverse
in the upper part the Small National Emblem of Ukraine is depicted, under
which in the right part the inscription ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ / ÁÀÍÊ / ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ
(National Bank of Ukraine) is placed against the glass background. Below,
against the background of a conventionalized circle there are the
inscriptions: 2 ÃÐÈÂͲ/ 2007 (2Hryvnia/ 2007) and the NBU Mint logotype

On the coin
reverse Les Kurbas is portrayed against the
conventionalized geometric decorative pattern used in poster design in the
20s of the XX century; above, to the left, there is the year of birth –
1887, below, to the right, the year of death – 1937, underneath – diagonal
inscription – ËÅÑÜ ÊÓÐÁÀÑ (Les Kurbas).
