The commemorative coin is dedicated to Yevhen Oskarovych PATON (1870-1953),
a world-famous scientist, founder of Ukrainian schools of bridge engineering
and electric welding, outstanding engineer and pedagogue.

On the coin obverse:above
there is the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine with the semicircular legend
ÍÀÖ²ÎÍÀËÜÍÈÉ ÁÀÍÊ ÓÊÐÀ¯ÍÈ (National Bank of Ukraine); below there is the
composition symbolizing the scholar’s activity in the bridge engineering
which represents the Paton Bridge, the first fully welded bridge in Europe,
the footbridge over Petrovska Alley and conventionalized Whatman’s paper
sheet (to the left); beneath there is the inscription 5 ÃÐÈÂÅÍÜ/2010 (5
hryvnias).

On the coin reverse:there
is a portrait of Yevhen Paton, to the right whereof there is the
conventionalized image of electric arc scintillation that appears during the
welding; below there are the inscriptions: ªÂÃÅÍ/ÏÀÒÎÍ/1870-1953 (Yevhen/Paton).
