The commemorative coin “Vasyl Symonenko” with the face value of 2 hryvnias
is dedicated to Vasyl Andriiovych Symonenko, a poet, prose writer and
journalist, who held deservedly an important position within the Pleiad of
the “shestydesiatnyky” (sixtiers). The poet’s work played a significant role
in the Ukrainian literature of the XXth century and is a model of high civic
consciousness. A patriotism subject of love for Ukraine and Ukrainians
bulked large therein.

On the coin obverse
there are: the Small State Emblem of Ukraine (above) with the legend
Íàö³îíàëüíèé áàíê Óêðà¿íè (National Bank of Ukraine) thereunder; the face
value 2/ÃÐÈÂͲ (2/Hryvnias) and the coin issue year 2008 (below); there is
depicted the conventionalized composition illustrating Symonenko’s poem
“Motherhood Swans” together with the logotype of the National Bank of
Ukraine Mint (on the left).

there is Vasyl Symonenko’s portrait; on the right, against the background of
willow leaves, there is the inscription ÂÀÑÈËÜ ÑÈÌÎÍÅÍÊÎ/1935-1963 (VASYL
SYMONENKO) together with two semicircular legends: ÌÎÆÍÀ ÂÑÅ ÍÀ ѲҲ
ÂÈÁÈÐÀÒÈ, ÑÈÍÓ, (POSSIBLE IS EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD TO CHOOSE, MY SON,)
above and ÂÈÁÐÀÒÈ ÍÅ ÌÎÆÍÀ Ò²ËÜÊÈ ÁÀÒÜʲÂÙÈÍÓ (TO CHOOSE IS NOT POSSIBLE
ONLY THE MOTHERLAND) below.
