The coin is dedicated to the icebreaker which was put into operation 50 years ago and which is named after Mykhailo P. Belousov (1904 - 1946), an experienced polar captain and a Hero of the Soviet Union.

On the coin obverse on the left there is a depiction of an anchor and a steering-wheel, against whose background there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine is depicted; in the middle there are engraved horizontal symbolic waves above which there are inscriptions: УКРАЇНА/2004 (Ukraine/2004) (above), 10/ГРИВЕНЬ (10/Hryvnia), as well as - designation of the metal, its fineness and the coin weight in fineness. There is also the Mint logotype of the Bank of Ukraine.
On the coin reverse there is a depiction of an ice-breaker amidst blocks of ice - in the foreground, and a boat in pure water - in the background; there are the inscriptions: `КАПІТАН БЄЛОУСОВ` (`Captain Belousov`), above in semicircle, and beneath - КРИГОЛАМ (Icebreaker) horizontal depiction against the mirror background
