The coin is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of putting into operation the first and the largest hydroelectric power station of Dnipro cascade (Zaporizhia), built in 1927-1932. The construction of the first Ukrainian power station was of great importance for development of metalurgical industry, mechanical engineering and agriculture of the Eastern and South Ukraine.
On the coin obverse within the inset ring there are depicted: a turbine with the engine room arch of the power station, the small National Emblem of Ukraine, the coin issue year - 2002, and the Mint logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine. Within the outer ring there are circular inscriptions: УКРАЇНА, 5 ГРИВЕНЬ (Ukraine/ 5/ hryvnia)
On the coin reverse within the internal ring there is a depiction of the dam and the building-1 of the power station; in external ring there are circular inscriptions: ДНІПРОГЕС, 70 РОКІВ (70 Years /Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Station
