National Bank of Ukraine puts the commemorative coin “The Great Bustard” into circulation

On 26 April 2013, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation the commemorative coin “The Great Bustard” of 10 and 2 hryvnia face value, which continue the “Flora and Fauna” series.

The coin is dedicated to the great bustard, one of the largest birds in Ukraine. This disappearing species from the gruiformes order is on the Ukrainian and European Red List of Threatened Species as a worldwide endangered species.

The coin of 10 hryvnia face value has been made of silver; quality – “special uncirculated”, weight – 31.1 g, diameter – 38.6 mm, mintage – 5 000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.

The coin of 2 hryvnia face value has been made of German silver; quality – “special uncirculated”, weight– 12.8  g, diameter – 31.0 mm, mintage – 30 000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.

Obverse: within the wreath formed from the images of different species of the flora and fauna there are the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine, the logo of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint and the legends:

on the silver coin – НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ/ БАНК/ УКРАЇНИ/ 10/ ГРИВЕНЬ/ 2013 (National Bank of Ukraine/10/hryvnias/2013)

 

on the German silver coin - НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ/ БАНК /УКРАЇНИ/ 2/ ГРИВНІ/ 2013 (National  /  Bank  /  of Ukraine / 2 / hryvnias / 2013).

 

Reverse: on the silver coin there is the image of great bustard together with the inscriptions: below, against the background of grass, OTIS TARDA and above ДРОХВА (Great Bustard).

 

Reverse: on the German silver coin there are colored images of great bustard and grass together with the inscriptions: below, against the background of grass, OTIS TARDA and above ДРОХВА (Great Bustard). The German silver coin was fabricated with making use of the pad printing.

For the silver commemorative coins, the selling price is UAH 575 per piece (packaged in a case), while the German silver coin is priced at UAH 15 per piece.

The commemorative coins of 10 and 2 hryvnia face value are a legal tender of Ukraine and shall be accepted without any restrictions at their face values for all types of payments as well as for placing to the settlement accounts, on deposits, for letters of credit and transfers.
