One kopiika is the lowest denomination coin. It is one hundredth of the hryvnia, Ukraine’s national currency.

Small-change coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 and 50 kopiikas were put into circulation on 2 September 1996.

The 1 hryvnia circulation coin was put into circulation on 12 March 1997.

On April 27, 2018, coins with a face value of 1 and 2 hryvnia were put into circulation, on December 20, 2019, coins with a face value of 5 hryvnias were put into circulation, and on June 03, 2020, coins with a face value of 10 hryvnias were put into circulation. These coins will be in circulation together with coins of 1 hryvnia of the old sample and banknotes of 1, 2, 5 and 10 hryvnias of the previous years of manufacture.
