On October 22, 2014, the National Bank of Ukraine sold foreign exchange worth USD 99.77 million to banks at the exchange rate of 12.95 UAH = 1 USD in its regular foreign exchange intervention. 49 banks participated in foreign exchange intervention operations. 88% of banks' demand for foreign exchange was met.
In order to prevent misuse of funds purchased by banks through foreign exchange interventions, the National Bank of Ukraine exercises close control over the availability of foreign exchange in banks’ cash departments and banks' compliance with foreign exchange laws. The National Bank of Ukraine is involved in joint efforts with law enforcement agencies to detect bank violators. In case of violation of foreign exchange laws and misuse of funds by the bank, the National Bank will apply administrative sanctions against these banks.
