On the Results of the first phase of the Best Coin of Ukraine Competition for 2016

The first phase of the Best Coin of Ukraine Competition for 2016 is over.

The three coins in each category (“Best coin of the Year”, “Unique Concept” and “Successful Artistic Solution”) that received the majority of the votes were selected  based on the voting results.

The second phase of the competition to select the best coins of the year 2016 will be held in the nearest future. During the second phase of the competition, the jury panel will select the competition winner in each category by secret ballot (from among the designers of the three selected coins).

The following coins received the majority of votes:

in the Best Coin of the Year category: 

“St. Nicholas Day” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias) - designers: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, Serhii Kharuk– 12.12%;

“Petrykivka Painting” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias) – designer  – Nataliia Fandikova – 10.59 %;

"Shchedryk” - silver, face value;  20 hryvnias) - designers: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, Serhii Kharuk– 9.44%;

 in the Unique Concept category:

“Ukraine Begins from Yount” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias - designers; Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, Serhii Kharuk– 10.53%;

“St. Nicholas Day” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias) - designers: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, Serhii Kharuk– 7.15%;

“Ancient Vyshhorod” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias) – designer  – Sviatoslav Ivanenko – 6.95 %;

 in the Successful  Artistic Solution category:

“Petrykivka Painting” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias) – designer  – Nataliia Fandikova – 16.29 %;

“St. Nicholas Day” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias) - designers: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, Serhii Kharuk– 10.81%;

“Ancient Vyshhorod” (German silver, face value: 5 hryvnias) – designer  – Sviatoslav Ivanenko – 8.53 %;

The following coins also received many votes: “ Shchedryk” (Gerna silver), “Petrykivka Painting” (silver), “Lady’s Slipper Orchid” (German silver,silver), “Remembrance for the Victims of Crimean Tatar Genocide”, “One Hundred Years since the Introduction of the Ukrainian Fire Engine” (German silver). Unfortunately, under the Competition rules, these coins failed to qualify for the second phase of the Competition.

A total of over 6,000 voters participated in the voting.  

The  questionnaires were accumulated inside the specially designed boxes installed at the NBU’s  regional premises  (36%), and the premises of banks acting as NBU’s distributors (39%). The Association of Numismatists of Ukraine received 20% of questionnaires. 5% of questionnaires were returned to the NBU via e-mail.
