On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the National Bank of Ukraine in accordance with the Resolution of the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine #342 of 21 September 2011 “On the Issuance of the Commemorative Coins on the Occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the National Bank of Ukraine” the commemorative banknote of 50 hryvnia face value of 2004 was put into circulation on 5 October 2011.
On the front side of the banknote the inscription "НБУ 20 років" is printed in special ink. When the banknote is held at different angles, the inscription changes color from golden to green.
The serial number НБ and numbers of banknotes 0000001 0001000 are used to designate banknotes.
Commemorative banknotes of 50 hryvnia face value of 2004 are a legal tender of Ukraine and shall be accepted without any restrictions at their face value for all types of payments as well as for placing to the settlement accounts, on deposits, for letters of credit and transfers, These banknotes are in circulation together banknotes of 50 hryvnia face value of 2004, which have been issued in previous years.
