On 9 November 2011, Commerzbank AG (Frankfurt am Main) hosted the thirteenth meeting of the working group “Banks” of the Ukrainian-German top-level Group on the issues of economic cooperation (hereinafter referred to as the – meeting), which was chaired by Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Ihor Sorkin and Senior Executive Director, Head of Financial Institutions of Commerzbank AG Per Fischer.
The leading experts from the National Bank of Ukraine, Ukrainian and German commercial banks, German financial institutions, banks and their representative offices in Ukraine.
During the meeting the Ukrainian and German sides addressed topical issues for both countries and shared experiences in the following areas, in particular:
state of the banking sector and main macroeconomic conditions for its development in Ukraine and Germany;
cooperation with international financial organizations within the framework of trade financing programs;
economic situation in post-crisis Europe and stability of the euro;
new strategic directions of Ukrainian-German cooperation in the banking sphere, etc.
The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere and the topical issues for both countries were discussed. The representatives from the German banks has pointed out that a stable economic situation is maintained in Ukraine and the investment climate in the financial sector of Ukraine is improving.

The working Group “Banks” refers to a specialized group on banking and financial issues established within the framework of the Ukrainian-German Cooperation Council on the issues of cooperation, which was incorporated into the Ukrainian German top-level Group on the issues of economic cooperation when the latter was created. The working group has been working since 1992.
