Solomiya Shpak, PhD Candidate in Public Policy at George Mason University, will present the research paper Employment and Productivity Effects of Tax Haven FDI. The study introduces new evidence on the impact of tax havens on developing countries: the author estimates the effect of tax haven ownership on employment and firm productivity using longitudinal data on Ukrainian firms. According to results, after the acquisition by foreign investors firms experience a boost in employment, labor productivity, and total factor productivity. However, the gap between acquired and domestic firms is lower if investors are from tax haven countries. The findings suggest that outcome of tax havens not limited to the loss of tax revenue.
