The availability of financial services for everyone: on 12 June representatives of the state and businesses will talk about cooperation on enhancing people’s welfare

On 12 June, Ukraine’s first innovation park UNIT.City will hold in Kyiv the second Financial Inclusion Forum. Leaving No One Behind. The event will be organized by the National Bank of Ukraine, the USAID Financial Sector Transformation Project, and the MasterCard and Visa companies. The forum will discuss the reasons for the low level of use of financial services in Ukraine, ways to enhance the public’s involvement in the financial markets, and how this will affect the economy.

“It takes money to make money,” an old English saying goes. And obviously, the best way to make money from money is to employ various financial instruments. However, Ukrainians use such instruments to a significantly less extent compared not only to Europeans, but also to their closest neighbors – residents of Belarus and Moldova. Over a third of Ukrainians have no bank accounts at all.

The forum will be a platform for debate about the availability of financial services in Ukraine, for the exchange of ideas between state authorities, businesses and non-government institutions, and for agreeing further steps towards creating a financially inclusive Ukrainian society.

Enhancing financial inclusion and financial literacy takes a lot of time, and requires the coordinated efforts of different stakeholders and partners. For this reason, bank managers, representatives of government institutions and local governments from all regions of Ukraine, representatives of leading retail, digital and insurance companies and other financial market participants, and university teachers are being invited to take part in the forum.

The forum will also be attended not only by the leading players of the Ukrainian financial market, but also by international experts from Australia, the UK, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Norway, Poland, the United States, Turkey, and Jamaica. Some of the speakers sharing their experience include:

  • Greta Bull, Director, Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation Global Practice, the World Bank Group, the United States
  • Kennedy Komba, Director, Strategy & Financial Inclusion Policy, AFI, Malaysia
  • Pawel WIDAWSKI, Vice President of Cashless Poland, Founder of FinTech Poland, and
  • Ratidzo Starkey, Head of Outreach and Education, Bank of England, the UK.

For reference

The first financial inclusion forum, held in June 2018, was the first powerful platform in Ukraine for high-level discussion of financial inclusion. The forum brought together over 200 participants and guests, including experts from Azerbaijan, the UK, Poland, Singapore, and Sweden.
