NBU Streamlines Requirements for Banks on Disclosure of Bank Secrecy

The National Bank of Ukraine has streamlined the requirements for banks on disclosure of information containing bank secrecy

In particular, the NBU has set that the request of the respective state agency for obtaining the information that contains bank secrecy shall contain:

  • for information about resident individuals - last name, first name, patronymic and registration number of the taxpayer card or number (and the series, if any) of the passport of a citizen of Ukraine with a note about refusal to accept the registration number of the taxpayer card
  • For information about nonresident individuals - last name, first name, and patronymic (if any), number (and series, if any) of the passport
  • for information about legal entities - name and identification code in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, Sole Proprietors and Nongovernmental Organizations.

The NBU also clarified that the passport of a citizen of Ukraine may be in the form of a card in an electronic contactless medium, under the Law of Ukraine On the Single Demographic Registry and Documents Confirming Citizenship of Ukraine, Identifying the Person or his/her Special Status”.

The respective amendments were approved by NBU Board Resolution No. 27 On Amendments to Rules for Storage, Protection, Use and Disclosure of Bank Secrecy dated 1 February 2019.. The Resolution shall come into effect on 4 February 2019.
