NBU Joins Global Money Week Initiative for Seventh Time

The National Bank of Ukraine has for the seventh time joined the international Global Money Week initiative for better financial literacy of children and university students. Supported by the USAID project Financial Sector Transformation, this educational event will take place on 25–31 March 2019 under the slogan “Learn! Save Up! Earn!”

The main events of the Global Money Week in Ukraine are traditionally hosted by the NBU. To increase the financial literacy of young Ukrainians, the NBU and its partners have developed a rich educational and interactive program. Thus, students will have an opportunity to take part in the following activities:

  • specially developed interactive games: “In Search of Treasures,” “Money Security,” “Travel Around the World: Banknotes and Coins from Different Countries of the World”
  • the debate Traditional Banks vs Nonbanks
  • the workshop Learn How to Run a Budget by Traveling in a Time Machine
  • the lecture Personal Finance Management and Planning
  • the lecture Behavioral Economics: How We Adopt Financial Decisions
  • tours of the NBU building.

In Ukraine, Global Money Week events began last week at the NBU. More specifically, on 21 March, the central bank conducted the intellectual game ”What? Where? How Much?” for students of economics from nine Ukrainian universities. In this hours-long intellectual contest with rules that resemble those of the game known as Brain Ring, 60 students competed for the title of the most knowledgeable persons in finance. “Daddy, Steer the Course,” the team of the Department of Economics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, came out as the winner.

The NBU also organized a day of excursions, opening its doors for friends and family members of the bank’s employees. In one day, 210 guests in 17 excursion groups visited the central bank. All guests had an opportunity to learn more about the central bank and visit the NBU Money Museum and the NBU’s historic building.
