NBU Initiates Discontinuation of Foreign Cash Supply to Banks of Russia and Belarus

The National Bank of Ukraine addressed the ambassadors and heads of central banks of G7 countries, European banks that supply foreign cash, and representatives of international instant money transfer operator Western Union asking to cease delivery of cash foreign currency to Russian and Belarussian banks.

This appeal comes after the Ukrainian authorities imposed martial law, and it aims to facilitate measures required to implement martial law pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 64/2022 On Introducing Martial Law in Ukraine dated 24 February 2022.

“The NBU is doing everything in its power to ensure sound and stable operation of Ukraine’s financial system and to fight Russia’s aggression in finance by every means necessary. We are grateful to colleagues and friends from all over the world for their help! I trust that to ensure piece in Ukraine our peers and partners will stop supplying the banks of aggressor states with foreign cash,” said NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko.
