Payment Cards of Russian and Belorussian Banks Banned in Ukraine

Payment cards issued by the banks from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus will not function in Ukraine.

Since 1 March 2022 the National Bank of Ukraine has prohibited:

  • crediting of funds to the accounts of individuals when processing remittances initiated through payment cards issued by the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus
  • accepting in Ukraine payment cards issued by the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus (including remittances, settlements and cash withdrawals).

“We shall stop financial support of aggression against Ukraine. Card by aggressor states will not function in Ukraine. The enemy will not be able to use them to transfer money for terrorist and their supporters. Banning Russian and Belarussian cards is our next step in financial defense of Ukraine,” said NBU Deputy Governor Oleksii Shaban.

Earlier the National Bank of Ukraine has called on the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard to stop servicing payment cards issued by the banks based in the Russian Federation.
