NBU Council Engages in Dialogue with the Relevant Parliamentary Committee

Trilateral kick-off meeting took place between members of Verkhovna Rada responsible committee on financial policy and banking activity and representatives of the NBU Council and Board.

Participants of the meeting discussed possible formats of meaningful interaction in future.

Chairman of the NBU Council, Mr Bohdan Danylyshyn, informed all present that the Council is to fulfill its task entrusted by law and develop the Monetary policy fundamentals for 2017 by the end of this year to ensure prices and financial stability and facilitate sustainable economic growth of Ukraine. He also called all parties for a dialogue and mutual understanding for the sake of formation of effective and sustainable banking system, which will become essential for ensuring economic development and raising the living standards for people.

“Members of the NBU Council are aiming at participation in law-making, and they are open to a dialogue with people’s deputies.  I hope that we all understand our responsibility before people of Ukraine. For now, we have no other parliament and NBU Board”, mentioned the NBU Council Chairman.

Moreover, people’s deputies offered members of the NBU Council to contribute to professional work on financial draft laws, which are essential for further reforms of the financial sector.

Today, over 20 draft laws are under consideration of the Verkhovna Rada waiting for the voting, and 47 are processed by Draft Law Committee on Banking. 

“Issue of restoring active lending and restoration of confidence in the banking system and customers is, first of all, in the area of formation of new rules of the game, what means adopting new laws for all players within the financial markets”, said Mr Vasyl Furman, member of the NBU Council.

NBU Council was represented by its Chairman, Mr Bohdan Danylyshyn, and its members - Ms Olena Shcherbakova and Mr Vasyl Furman.  First Deputy of the NBU Governor, Mr Yakiv Smolii, represented NBU Board on the meeting.
