The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) and the Central Bank of Tunisia (CBT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that aims to develop and expand a framework of knowledge and expertise sharing in different areas mainly Communication, Transformation, Monetary Policy and Currency Regulation.
The MoU was signed by the NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii and the CBT Governor Marouane El Abassi on September 5th 2019 in Kyiv during the visit of the CBT delegation to the NBU.
The MoU intensifies a closer strategic cooperation between the two institutions and will facilitate mutual sharing of expertise and proficiency and this through conducting different working visits, technical consultations, organizing staff trainings, seminars, workshops as well as research activities.
“Over the past five years, the NBU has grown significantly to become a powerful, independent institution with deep expertise and innovative approaches to traditional central banking. This is recognized by the international community of central bankers, among others. I hope that our cooperation and willingness to share our accomplishments will contribute to the further development of the modern Central Bank of Tunisia,” said NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii.
For his part, Mr. Marouane El Abassi, Governor of the CBT, stressed the importance of this Memorandum of Understanding, which allows the BCT to collaborate with an institution that initiate best practices. This is in line with the CBT’s strategic vision of being a modern, proactive and efficient Central Bank at the forefront of economic and financial transformations. “We share similarities with the NBU, particularly in the management of the phases of political and economic transitions. The monetary policy, communication and transformation aspects are among the strategic projects on which the experience of the NBU will be of a definite support for the CBT”.
The memorandum that came into force after the Governors‘ signing will help strengthen and formalize the strategic and working relationship between the two institutions.
