Setting Prices in Foreign Currency in Ukraine Is Illegal and Immoral

The National Bank of Ukraine condemns the decisions of businesses and individuals that, in a situation so dire for the people of Ukraine, set prices for goods and services in foreign currency, in particular in U.S. dollars or euros, rather than in hryvnias. Specifically, the NBU has become aware of cases of rental prices in Ukraine having been set in euros.

Attention! The hryvnia is Ukraine’s domestic currency and sole legal tender. It shall be accepted at its face value by all individuals and legal entities without any limitation all over the territory of Ukraine for all types of payments in accordance with Article 35 of the Law of Ukraine On the National Bank of Ukraine.

Setting prices in foreign currency in Ukraine is therefore illegal.

Not only are such actions immoral during war, but also they are in direct violation of Ukrainian law.
