Hryvnia to Zloty Exchange in Poland Coming to End

9 September 2022 is the last day when Ukrainians in Poland can exchange cash hryvnias for zlotys. The agreement between Narodowy Bank Polski and PKO Bank Polski, regarding the exchange of cash hryvnias for Polish zlotys by Ukrainians at the bank’s Polish-based branches, terminates on 10 September 2022.

The cash hryvnia to Polish zloty exchange program was launched on the basis of an agreement between the NBU and Narodowy Bank Polski. The program provided the cash hryvnia to zloty exchange capability, to meet daily needs, to Ukrainians who had left Ukraine for Poland as they fled the war.

During the more than five-month period before 5 September 2022, Ukrainians in Poland exchanged nearly UAH 700 million for zlotys. Over the past few months, demand for such transactions has been steadily fading: in August 2022, Ukrainians exchanged approximately UAH 30 million, down from over UAH 380 million in April.
