Shevchenko's days held at the National Bank of Ukraine

The literary and artistic event "Shevchenko known and unknown" was held at the National Bank of Ukraine to honour the memory of Taras Shevchenko, a famous Ukrainian poet.  The event was attended by all the staff of the National Bank of Ukraine.

“Today we honour the memory of the Great Kobzar. We are doing it as it is our history and we must remember it. … We have something to be proud of,” said Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Sergiy Arbuzov in his opening speech. He pointed out that not every country has such a rich history and cultural heritage that Ukraine does.

Sergiy Arbuzov emphasized that we should respect and safeguard our past, increase our cultural heritage and pass it on to our children.

During the event the employees of Taras Shevchenko National Museum reminded the attendees of a poet’s difficult life path and inhuman conditions that became the environment in which Kobzar’s strong and outstanding personality was formed. The poet devoted his life to the struggle for a better destiny of the Ukrainian people.

The performance given by a Ukrainian folk band "Roksolania" of the Institute of philology of the Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko became the culmination of the celebrations. The band applauded by the audiences in Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Japan and other countries gave a wonderful instrumental and vocal performance based on motifs of the Great Kobzar’s works.

Apart from that, the National Bank of Ukraine hosted a mobile book exhibition "We respect Kobzar", a display of coins, medals and banknotes devoted to the 198th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko.
