National Bank of Ukraine dismisses as groundless reports published by some Ukrainian mass media outlets

The National bank of Ukraine formally dismisses reports that some 10 small and medium sized financial institutions that need to be removed from the market have been put on the list that has allegedly been transferred to the senior management team of the Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF).

The said report published today in the Capital newspaper under the headline "NBU plans to close down more than 10 banks by the end of the year" is non-credible, meaning that it has no substance.

We intimate that presently there is no list of banks referred to in this newspaper article, which could allegedly be removed from the market by the end of the year.

It should be emphasized that groundless statements and unverified information about fictitious lists of “problematic” banks that is circulated through the mass media from time to time undermines public confidence and jeopardize efforts by the National Bank to maintain the banking system stability.

We call on mass media representatives to use only credible information and thoroughly verify the sources of information, especially when it comes to market-sensitive information and the banking system stability. We ask the journalists to stick to journalism ethics in reporting and place the interests of Ukrainian citizens above anything else.
