National Bank of Ukraine stresses the need for payment card holders to adhere to security rules while carrying out transactions involving the use of payment cards

Recently, the National Bank of Ukraine has received numerous claims from citizens regarding the unauthorized access to the payment card details or the use of payment cards to carry out dubious operations.

Citizens who place online advertisements for the purchase/sale of goods or post free advertisements on the Internet are possible targets of fraudsters who pretend to be potential buyers or bank employees (from the client support service department or the security department) to access payment card details of the payment card holders.

The National Bank of Ukraine warns citizens against sharing personal details/payment card details (payment card number, PIN-code, СVV2, the  validity period of the card as well as the confirmation code for payments/transfers sent to the mobile phone) with any third parties.

When it comes to transactions involving the use of payment cards (including mobile payments), the National Bank of Ukraine recommends that citizens adhere to the security rules set by the issuing bank, and follow the guidelines provided by the National Bank of Ukraine, which are available in the “Financial literacy/Financial questions and advice"/"Guidelines for payment card holders" section of the NBU's official website.

Responsibility, alertness, adherence to the security rules when making transfers of funds, continuous monitoring of the flow of funds, regular updating of antivirus protection on your computer, due notification of the bank about the loss of payment  card (or payment card information), the non-disclosure of personal details are crucial for safeguarding one's savings, and provide an effective shield against unauthorized access to the payment card details or the use of payment cards to carry out dubious operations.
