Banks' customers are increasingly using contactless payment cards for cashless payments.
In Q2 2015, the number of active contactless payment cards increased by almost 122 thousand psc (11.2%) and amounted to over 1.2 million psc.
The increase in the number of contactless payment cards was primarily accounted for by the launch and promotion of the state-of-the-art banking products by banks in the area of trade and services, and, consequently, the development of payment infrastructure. In Q2 2015, the banks additionally installed 911 contactless POS terminals.
According to the data released by the Ukrainian Processing Centre PrJSC, the average value of a purchase transaction executed using a contactless payment card amounted to UAH 189 in the said period and increased by 12% since the start of the year. Contactless cards were largely used to make payments at the petrol stations, supermarkets, fast food restaurants, beauty boutiques, and to buy movie tickets.
Contactless payments have been launched to pay for transport services. Contactless payments have already been available in 17 stations of the Kyiv subway.
