Two new commemorative coins put into circulation on 28 August 2013

On 28 August 2013, the National Bank of Ukraine put new commemorative coins “650th Anniversary of the First Record of the City of Vinnytsia” and "Nesterov's Loop" into circulation.

Mr. Viktor Nesterenko, Director of General Department for Regulation of Cash Circulation, has said that by issuing these commemorative coins the National Bank of Ukraine keeps the tradition of honoring the Ukrainian history going: "Ukraine has a rich history and its own traditions, language and it has long maintained a distinct cultural identity. Our task is to take care of our national historical and spiritual monuments, learn and create new history of our native land rather than destroy it".

Mr. Viktor Nesterenko has said that the commemorative coins “650th Anniversary of the First Record of the City of Vinnytsia” of 10 and 5 hryvnia face value continue the “Ancient Cities of Ukraine” series. The coins are dedicated to Vinnytsia, an administrative and industrial center, which was first mentioned under 1363 as a fortress.

The coin "650th Anniversary of the First Record of the City of Vinnytsia" of 10 hryvnia face value has been made of silver. The coin bears a holographic image. Mintage – 3,000 pieces..

The coin  “650th Anniversary of the First Record of the City of Vinnytsia” of 5 hryvnia face value has been made of German silver. Mintage – 30,000 pieces.

Designers: Volodymyr  Taran,  Oleksandr  Kharuk,  Serhii Kharuk. Engravers: Anatolii Demianenko, Volodymyr Atamanchuk, and Roman Chaikovskyi.

The commemorative coin "Nesterov's Loop" of 5 hryvnia face value struck by the National Bank of Ukraine is dedicated to Petro Nesterov, a pioneer pilot, who became the first pilot to perform the aerobatic maneuver known as loop-the-loop in the sky above the Syrets military aerodrome before numerous spectators’ eyes on 27 August 2013. Later, this aerobatic stunt was called "Nesterov's Loop".

"This milestone event that took place 100 years ago opened a new era in aerobatics and made a significant contribution to the aviation development," noted Mr. Viktor Nesterenko.

The commemorative coin "Nesterov's Loop" of 5 hryvnia face has been made of German silver. Mintage – 3,000 pieces. Designer and engraver – Sviatoslav Ivanenko.
