In April 2016, the total outstanding debt on loans granted to insolvent banks by the National Bank of Ukraine contracted by UAH 1.9 billion to UAH 46.77 billion, the largest decrease since the beginning of 2016.
A UAH 1.9 billion reduction in the outstanding debt can be attributed, among other factors, to the NBU’s exercise of the right to repossess Ukrainian government bonds pledged by VAB BANK PJSC as collateral against refinancing loans.
In 2016, the NBU expects to recover UAH 12.8 billion in proceeds from the repayment of the outstanding debt on refinancing loans granted to banks that have been declared insolvent.
