17 Small Banks Increase Capital to UAH 120 Million Minimum Prescribed by Law

From mid-2014, they increased capital in total amount of UAH 731 million (including approved but not registered authorized capital yet).

In total, 22 banks required capital increase. However, five of them did not fulfill requirements for objective reasons as of 17 June 2016. These banks continue working with the NBU to resolve the situation.

Currently, options to resolve this problem are the following:

  • Increase of capital;
  • Self-liquidating in case of absence of interest in activity in the banking market;
  • Amalgamation with other player in the market.

Please note that under the Law of Ukraine On Amendments to Some Laws of Ukraine Aimed at Prevention of Adverse Impact on Banking System Stability No. 1586-VII of 04 July 2014, the minimum size of the bank authorized capital at the moment of state registration of legal entity intending to engage in banking, increased from UAH 120 million to UAH 500 million.

In compliance with the law, the NBU developed the schedule for gradual bringing authorized capital in line with requirements, indeed, with the level not lower than:

  • UAH 200 million – before 11 July 2017;
