National Bank of Ukraine Presents Commemorative Coins “Ivan Mykolaychuk”

Today, on 17 June 2016, presentation of commemorative coin “Ivan Mykolaychuk” took place at the Money Museum of the National Bank of Ukraine.

Head of State Agency of Ukraine for Movie Mr Pylyp Illienko, Head of National Film-Makers Union of Ukraine Mr Serhiy Trymbach, Merited Artist of Ukraine Ms Raisa Nedashkivska, Merited Master of Arts and Director of Film Photography Mr Yurii Harmash, author of coin sketches Mr Mykola Kochubey, and Deputy Head of of Numismatic Product and Marketing Division of the Cash Circulation Department of the NBU Ms Viktoria Suzanska participated the presentation.

On 15 June 2016, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation the 2 hryvnia commemorative coin “Ivan Mykolaychuk”. On that day, famous actor Ivan Mykolaychuk would have turned 75 years old but, unfortunately, his life tragically closed over 30 years ago.

“NBU always honors Ukrainians, who globally represent Ukrainian culture and art; those personalities, with whom the reference on our state is associated,” said Deputy Head of of Numismatic Product and Marketing Division of the Cash Circulation Department of the NBU Ms Viktoria Suzanska. “Coin, which we present today, is dedicated to actor, stage manager and script writer Ivan Mykolaychuk, who managed to embody in his movies the specificity and national identity of Ukrainian culture”.

 According to her, this commemorative coin continued the most old and numerous “Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine” series founded in 1995 with the coin “Bohdan Khmelnytskyi”, and now it has 130 commemorative coins.

Head of State Agency of Ukraine for Movie Mr Pylyp Illienko highly appreciated the initiative of the National Bank of Ukraine to create a coin dedicated to famous representative of Ukrainian cinema: “We are grateful to author of the coin for great revelation of personality of Ivan Mykolaychuk. To my mind, he is the one of the most outstanding personalities in Ukrainian cinema, and natural Ukrainian gene distinguished him from all others“.

According to Head of National Film-Makers Union of Ukraine, Merited Master of Arts of Ukraine Mr Serhiy Trymbach, the fact that the NBU engraved Ivan Mykolaychuk on the commemorative coin will facilitate promotion of Ukrainian art and culture both within our country and outside its borders: “I hope that this coin and this anniversary of Ivan Mykolaychuk will serve the all-Ukrainian understanding of the fact that we have to earn our authority, first of all, with cultural and art events as well as such names and personalities as Ivan Mykolaychuk”.

In her turn, Merited Artist of Ukraine Ms Raisa Nedashkivska dwelled on her work with the talented colleague: “It’s all easier when there are maitres. They are just like Atlantes holding skies on their shoulders.  And today we thank to ivan Mykolaychuk for holding that skies on his shoulders and holding that highness of national culture”.

Author of the coin, Merited Artist of Ukraine, Mr Mykola Kochubey told how he worked on sketches: “I suppose that Ivan Mykolaychuk knew the formula of Universe. And this formula is simple - it’s harmony. The component of the harmomy is love to people. I tried to reproduce his Universe in design of the coin”.

He noted that the obverse of the coin bears the picture of far mountains, in the foreground against the smooth background there is depicted the symbolic gate, under which stands Ivan Mykolaychuk holding lamb in his arms. On the reverse against the smooth background there is depicted the portrait of Ivan Mykolaychuk surrounded by his movie heroes.
