On 12 October 2016, as part of the International Exhibition Forum "Protection Technologies/FireTech-2016”, the National Bank of Ukraine and the Ukrainian State Enterprise Ukrposhta presented the commemorative coin “One Hundred Years since the Introduction of the Ukrainian Fire Engine” and a series of postage stamps, envelopes and postcards that commemorates the introduction of the first fire engines in Ukraine.
The event was attended by government officials, representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the NBU and the Ukrainian State Enterprise Ukrposhta.
“A hundred years ago, in 1916, the introduction of the first fire engines marked the beginning of a new era in the history of firefighting,” said Director of the NBU Cash Circulation Department Mr Viktor Zaivenko. “It is this vintage red motor vehicle is featured on the commemorative coin released by the NBU to mark one hundred years since the introduction of the fire fighting engine designed for firefighting operations performed by firefighters.”
Mr Zaivenko said that a 5 hryvnia commemorative coin “One Hundred Years since the Introduction of the Ukrainian Fire Engine” was put into circulation on 3 October 2016.
This coin is made from German silver, a non-precious metal, in special uncirculated quality, with a mintage of 40,000 pieces.
Obverse: in the center against a smooth background is a fire fighter’s helmet and fire fighting equipment. Reverse: there is a color fire engine with fire fighters sitting inside it (pad-printed).
“The NBU has released this coin to commemorate people whose job is to combat fires and protect the lives of citizens from the dangers of fires. This coin is an expression of gratitude from the NBU to the firefighters and rescuers for their hard work,” said Mr Zaivenko, wrapping up the presentation.
The coin is designed and sculpted by Volodymyr Demianenko.
The commemorative Coin “One Hundred Years since the Introduction of the Ukrainian Fire Engine” is priced at UAH 38. The coin is available for sale at the NBU regional cash circulation divisions (Kyiv2-b, Kontraktova Sq) and distributor banks – Oschadbank JSC and Ukrgasbank JSB.
