On 8 November 2013, the Ukrainian school student winners of the competition entitled "Save up!" were honored at a ceremony hosted by the Money Museum of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The competition was organized by the Financial Sector Development Program (USAID/FINREP-II) under the auspices of the National Bank of Ukraine as part of an initiative to launch the National Financial Literacy Week and mark the World Savings Day in Ukraine.
The three winning teams were selected from among 16 teams that had competed to create the best video explaining the importance of savings and suggesting ways of achieving financial goals.
In his welcome address to the winners of the competition entitled "Save up!", First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Borys Prykhodko said: "The main purpose of these events is to raise the level of financial literacy among the Ukrainian population, promote consistent savings habits and encourage people to save money for the sake of future financial stability".
As part of efforts to implement the Action Plan to increase the level of financial literacy among the Ukrainian population for 2013, which was endorsed by NBU Ordinance No. 61-od of 18 May 2013, the National Bank of Ukraine put forward an initiative to launch the National Financial Literacy Week and mark the World Savings Day in Ukraine. The core purpose of these events is to hold a public awareness campaign to promote the benefits of family budget management, inform the public about the main principles of financial accounting, cultivate savings and investment habits, and provide the public with reliable information about the main financial products designed to help consumers reach their financial goals.
