The first phase of the Best Coin of Ukraine Competition (hereinafter – the Competition) has been launched today. The competition, first introduced in 2005, has become a well-established event.
The voting will run from 6 February 2017 through 3 April 2017 to select the three coins that will get the majority of votes. Winners will be selected in the following categories: "Best coin of the Year", "Unique Concept" and "Successful Artistic Solution".
The commemorative coins put into circulation by the NBU from 1 January until 31 December 2016 are eligible to enter the competition.
The voting is open to anyone interested in commemorative coins. At the first stage of the competition, please vote in one of the following ways:
- by filling in an online questionnaire posted on the NBU’s website to select the best coin;
- by returning the completed questionnaire via email at [email protected]; and
- by dropping the completed questionnaire into the box placed at the regional offices of the NBU Cash Circulation Department and distributor banks (Oshchadbank JSC and UКRGАZBАNК JSB).
Please note that one and the same coin can be selected only in one category.
The competition is held in two phases. During the second phase of the competition, the jury panel will select the competition winner in each category by secret ballot (from among the designers of the three selected coins).
Information on the results of the second phase of the competition will be posted on the NBU’s website.
As a side note, the following commemorative coins put into circulation in 2015 were named the winners of the Best Coin of the Year Competition:
- in the Best Coin of the Year category: "Volodymyr the Great, Grand Duke of Kyiv", designers: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, and Serhii Kharuk;
in the Unique Concept category: "Bohdan Khmelnytskyi", designers: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, and Serhii Kharuk;
- in the Successful Artistic Solution category: "Volodymyr the Great, Grand Duke of Kyiv", designers: Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, Serhii Kharuk.
