Financial Awareness Days project starts in Odesa

On 20 September and in the nearest three days various events to raise financial awareness of Odesa's residents will be held. The events will take place within a framework of the Financial Awareness Days project organized by the National Bank of Ukraine (hereinafter - the NBU) in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of its project Ukraine—Financial Sector Transformation (hereinafter - FST) and also with the support of Visa international payment system.   Training and interactive workshops on financial awareness will be provided for the young people; 12 speakers representing the financial market will give lectures for financial market experts and scholars.

During the mentioned days a travelling exhibition of the NBU Museum of Money will be held; it will consist of two parts viz. a display in the historical context and a unique collection of commemorative coins.    The display will include the banknotes and coins exhibition Ways of the Ukrainian Hryvnia History focused on the history of the Ukrainian currency, and a special photo project Inspired by UPR Age. The sub-theme of the commemorative coins collection Pages of the Ukraine's History encompasses several series and underlines the most important events and symbols in the Ukraine's history. A temporary exhibition of the coins devoted to Odesa and Odesa oblast will be shown for the first time. The Signs of the Zodiac, Children's Zodiac, and Oriental Calendar, the most popular series of the NBU commemorative coins, will also be exhibited. In addition, visitors will be able to view the videos of the Hryvnia is Our Symbol campaign, which will allow them to learn about the historical and symbolic content of the Ukrainian currency banknotes and to visit the cashless area.

"With this project, the NBU wants to draw public attention to the financial education.  Financial awareness is one of the important factors in ensuring financial sector stability," said NBU Deputy Governor Roman Borysenko during exhibition opening.

Co-organizers and partners of the event see the strategic goal of the project in raising citizens' financial awareness.

"Raising citizens' financial awareness as well as protecting consumers' rights are a part of the Comprehensive Program of Ukrainian Financial Sector Development Until 2020. USAID actively support financial regulators in introducing the measures focused on the above goal. During Financial Awareness Days in Odesa we present the results of several all-Ukrainian surveys concerning financial awareness, confidence and behavior of the Ukrainian consumers. I hope that the events within the framework of Financial Awareness Days will be useful and interesting for the visitors," said Robert Bond, the manager of the USAID's FST project.
