Financial Awareness Days Launched in Dnipro

From 29 November through 1 December, 47 various events will be held in Dnipro to improve financial awareness. The events will take place within a framework of the Financial Awareness Days project managed by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) team implementing the Financial Sector Transformation Project and also with the support of Visa international payment system.

Financial Awareness Days in Dnipro includes:

  • 7 open lectures and 4 lectures for university professors on monetary policy, cashless payments, consumer lending, deposit guarantee system, selection of a reliable financial institution and security of bank deposits, protection of investors in the stock market, financial ombudsman institution, FX regulation, as well as financial reporting of banks;
  • Presentation of Financial Literacy, Awareness and Inclusion Survey in Ukraine from the USAID Project International Partnerships for Financial Sector Stability (IP-FSS);
  • 12 interactive workshops and trainings for school and university students
  • 18 excursions at traveling exhibition of the NBU's Museum of Money.

"Dnipro is the final stage of the project this year after Odesa, Lviv and Kharkiv. Over five thousand guests visited our events in those three cities. I believe that the interest of the visitors testifies to the fact that we have managed to unite efforts and build a coherent coordinated interaction between the partners and project organizers, said NBU Acting Governor Yakiv Smolii at the solemn opening ceremony. I am sure that next year we will expand our measures to raise financial literacy beyond the million-plus cities”.

Stephen Rinetsky, Deputy Director of the Economic Growth Office, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), expressed his support for raising the level of financial awareness in Ukraine.

"USAID supports the NBU's initiatives to raise financial awareness, as this activity is aimed at building a solid Ukraine through better financial inclusion. Increasing the awareness of Ukrainians about financial system, understanding of financial institutions activity and new technologies, as well as trust in them, are essential for personal well-being and financial stability”, said Stephen Rinetsky.

With the start of this year’s final round of project, Dnipro citizens were greeted by Robert Bond, Transformation of the Financial Sector Project Manager, USAID, Olena Poliakova, Director of the Business Development Department, Visa , as well as Angela Kuznetsova, Deputy Rector of the University of Banking.

Moreover, Yakiv Smolii, NBU Acting Governor, held a meeting with representatives of the banking and business community, where local bankers and entrepreneurs had an opportunity to discuss topical issues of the banking sector development.

During the mentioned days a traveling exhibition of the NBU Museum of Money will be held; it will consist of two parts:

  • the display of historical context will include the banknotes and coins exhibition Ways of the Ukrainian Hryvnia History focused on the history of the Ukrainian currency, and a special photo project Inspired by UPR Age;
  • unique commemorative coins collection Pages of Ukraine's History encompasses several series and underlines the most important events and symbols in the history of Ukraine.

A temporary exhibition of the coins devoted to Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk oblast will be shown for the first time.

The Signs of the Zodiac, Children's Zodiac, and Oriental Calendar, the most popular series of the NBU commemorative coins, will also be exhibited.

Visitors will be able to view the videos of the Hryvnia is Our Symbol campaign, which will allow them to learn about the historical and symbolic content of the Ukrainian currency banknotes and to visit Visa’s cashless area.

Financial Awareness Days

Financial Awareness Days – is a common project of the National Bank of Ukraine, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Transformation of the Financial Sector Project, and Visa company. The events will be held in Dnipro from 29 November through 1 December in partnership with the Banking University, Deposit Guarantee Fund, and Independent Association of the Banks of Ukraine.

The Financial Awareness Days in Dnipro is a final stage of the project this year. Similar events have already taken place in Odesa (20-22 September), Lviv (1-3 November), and Kharkiv (15-17 November). Event program and schedule in Dnipro are available at.

This project is planned to cover 20 Ukrainian cities next year.
