Speaking to the people living in a small residential district called “Teremky-2” who had gathered for a rally, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv reassured young parents that he was firm in his stance on this issue and said the National had scrapped the plans to fund any construction projects on the sites that were in permanent use by the National Bank.
“The country is currently facing political and economic challenges, requiring us to stick to a tight budget and cut spending. The National Bank is currently operating on a tight budget and has suspended all capital projects. It is not funding any housing projects,” said Mr Stepan Kubiv.
He also said that that from now on the National Bank is set to act in strict compliance with its mandate and the applicable laws of Ukraine “On the National Bank of Ukraine” and “On Banks and Banking”.
In addition, Mr Stepan Kubiv gave the district residents a clearer picture of the real situation, in particular, he informed the people about the commercial real estate developers' failure to meet their obligations to build a childcare center and speculations circulating in the media. Presently, these disputes should be settled with the help of Kyiv local community.
“We are to meet the municipal authorities to work out joint measures to be taken to determine the future fate of this site so that it will be used for the benefit of the local community and in order to create favorable living conditions for Kyivans and their children,” said the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine emphasizing that no local area development plan for the residential district “Teremky-2”, including a parcel of the land belonging to the National Bank, had been approved by the local authorities.
