The regional branch of the National Bank of Ukraine in Donetsk oblast has suspends its activities. The move has been prompted by the separatists' actions. Today, the representatives of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic has demanded a large amount of money from the management team of this regional branch threatening to seize the building if the bank employees defy demands by separatists.

For the sake of saving lives of bank's employees and clients, the National Bank of Ukraine has ordered to evacuate the employees of the regional branch and suspend bank operations within the territory of Donetsk oblast.

According to Acting Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Volodymyr Krotiuk, such actions of the separatists make it impossible for the banking system to operate in the region, which can lead to the non-payment of pensions, salaries to public-sector employees, and miners. Their actions also pose threats to the operation of enterprises and trading outlets.

Under these circumstances and in order to take urgent action to protect public property, the National Bank of Ukraine turned to the law enforcement authorities for help.
