Stepan Kubiv and representatives of the IMF discuss the issue related to transparency of banks' activities

Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv has held a working meeting with an IMF Technical Mission to Ukraine.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the issues related to reforming the framework for financial monitoring and counteraction to money laundering in the banking sphere, as well as amending national legislation to ensure that transparent rules governing banks' activities have been put in place.

Mr Stepan Kubiv stressed that the National Bank of Ukraine was resolute in its determination to execute an agreement entered into with the International Monetary Fund.

Mr Stepan Kubiv drew the attention of representatives of the IMF to the opportunities opened up to the banking system of Ukraine following the signing of the economic part of the Association Agreement with the EU.

He said that in order enhance the transparency of the banking system and protection of the rights of investors and creditors, the National Bank of Ukraine publishes updated information on the owners of qualifying holding on the NBU's official website on a regular basis.

During May 28 – June 12, an IMF team will work in Ukraine to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the system of governance, jurisprudence and measures to clamp down on corruption.
