The National Bank of Ukraine participated in the official awarding ceremony of the 5th International commemorative coins contest "Coin Constelation-2011" which took place in in St. Petersburg.

Only 30 coins out of 200 commemorative coins presented to the contest have won prizes and diplomas. The two coins issued by the National Bank of Ukraine are among the winners of the contest.

According to the results of the contest the Ukrainian coins have been awarded in the following nominations:

"The best coin of the year" –  the silver commemorative coin of 50 hryvnia face value "Island of Khortytsia in the Dnieper – the Cradle of Ukrainian Cossacks",

"Souvenir coin" – the silver ccommemorative coin of 5 hryvnia face value "Year of the Tiger" , "Oriental Calendar " series.

The gold coin "The 150th Anniversary of the Bank of Russia" became the winner of this year’s contest. Its weight is 5 kg. The coin has got a special obverse: besides the traditional emblem of the Bank of Russia images of national symbols used for decoration of banknotes and coins since the foundation of the State Bank are placed here.

As reported earlier, the silver ccommemorative coin "On Motifs of N.V.Gogol’s Work "Evenings on a Farm Near Dykanka" was recognized as "The best coin of the year" last year.

"Coin Constellation" is known as the contest of commemorative coins that was started in 2007. 47 coins from 11 countries took part in the first contest. Five years later, the number of coins-participants have multiplied five times.

All the coins participating in this year’s contest were issued into circulation from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2010. They were presented by the National Banks, mints and companies-distributors.

The winners have been determined by the jury consisting of the experts from the world famous museums, auction houses, distributing companies, numismatic associations and specialized periodicals on coins.

In 2011 the list of nominations of the "Coin Constellation" contest became wider.

In the previous contests they were six:

- Unique concept

- Successful artistic solution

- Original technology

- Silver coin of the year ]

- Gold coin of the year

- Coin of the year.

This year three new nominations were added:

- Coin classic

- Souvenir coin

- Series of the year.
