Valeriia Gontareva and Qimiao Fan discussed the preparation of the First Programmatic Financial Rehabilitation Development Policy Loan

Today, on June 25, 2014, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeriia Gontareva had a meeting with Qimiao Fan, the World Bank Country Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, and representatives of the evaluation mission of the World Bank on the First Programmatic Financial Rehabilitation Development Policy Loan.

World Bank mission, that started its work in Ukraine on June 23, 2014, will estimate the steps to reform the financial sector of Ukraine and the implementation of all previous measures.

Qimiao Fan stressed the priority for World Bank support of the financial sector of Ukraine and informed the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine of the planned schedule for the World Bank Board’s deliberation on the First Programmatic Financial Rehabilitation Development Policy Loan.

He expressed confidence that cooperation between the World Bank and Ukrainian Central Bank will remain fruitful and continue to contribute to the efficient development of the financial system.

In turn, Valeriia Gontareva welcomed the World Bank representatives and thanked them for the support of reforms initiated in the Ukrainian financial sector that resulted in the fruitful joint work on the preparation of the First Programmatic Financial Rehabilitation Development Policy Loan.

Gontareva informed them about the work performed by the National Bank of Ukraine to stabilize the financial sector of Ukraine, and the changes, which, in the opinion of NBU, shall be made to the Ukrainian banking law.

The parties discussed the enhancement of the effectiveness of the Deposit Guarantee Fund operation, ways to provide it with the financial support and to improve bank resolution mechanisms.

During the meeting parties also agreed to consolidate efforts for the successful implementation of the Ukrainian financial sector development program and to maintain a constructive dialogue to address all possible issues.
