IMF mission completes its work in Ukraine

On 4 November 2011, the final meeting between the management team of the National Bank of Ukraine led by NBU Governor Sergiy Arbuzov and a staff team of the International Monetary Fund (hereinafter referred to as the – IMF) took place within the framework of the visit of the IMF mission to Ukraine.

Sergiy Arbuzov,Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine and Thanos Arvanitis, Mission Chief for Ukraine, discussed the most debatable issues under the Stand-By Arrangement.

Sergiy Arbuzov as a governor in the IMF Board of Governors from Ukraine thanked the IFM mission for the fruitful dialogue and confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to continue communication in the long-distance format and emphasized that cooperation with the IMF is of vital importance for the development of Ukraine’s economy. The NBU Governor expressed the willingness to take into the recommendations provided by the IMF mission with a view to their further implementation.

Thanos Arvanitis, Mission Chief for Ukraine, expressed his satisfaction with the fulfillment of commitments by the National Bank of Ukraine under the Stand-By Arrangement and stressed that "the constructive discussion with both the National Bank of Ukraine and other authorities would continue to prepare and approve a report for the IMF leadership."

The sides discussed the recommendations provided by the IMF and reached an agreement on most issues. In particular, they agreed that the monetary policy for the next year should be focused on maintaining an acceptable inflation rate, strengthening the banking system and supporting financial stability in the country.
