The First Annual Research Conference on “Transformation of Central Banking” Takes Place on 19-20 May in Kyiv

On 19-20 May 2016, the First Annual Research Conference of the National Bank of Ukraine on “Transformation of Central Banking” organized in cooperation with Narodowy Bank Polski with the assistance of the Government of Canada and the Kyiv School of Economics took place in Kyiv. The conference was attended by representatives of central banks from more than 15 countries. A total of over 300 participants, including representatives of international financial institutions, domestic and international academia, and the expert community took part in this event. During the two-day conference, the participants had the opportunity to hear speeches by Mr Philipp Hildebrand, Vice Chairman of the BlackRock Investment Institute, Mr Zdeněk Tůma, former governor of the Czech National Bank, Mr Per Jansson, Deputy Governor and member of the Executive Board of Sveriges Riksbank, Mr Maurice Obstfeld, the Economic Counsellor and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund, as well as many other prominent researchers, experts and practitioners. The conference agenda included 15 hours of speeches by the speakers, five research sessions and three panel discussions.

In addition to the main conference agenda, the NBU arranged for the conference’s keynote speakers to give lectures at higher educational institutions operating in Kyiv. Thus, Mr Andrei Kirilenko, a Ph.D. holder in Economics and Professor of Finance at the Imperial College Business School (London) spoke to students at the Kyiv School of Economics. Mr Marcin Kolasa Director of the Bureau of Applied Research of the Narodowy Bank Polski and Associate Professor at the Warsaw School of Economics met with students of the Economic Department of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Mr Maurice Obstfeld, Professor of Economics, delivered a lecture to students of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
