UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office Provides GBP 5 million in Aid to Armed Forces of Ukraine

The NBU has received from the  UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office GBP 5 million(about UAH 182 million). The funds have been wired into the NBU’s special account opened to support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On 30 March, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office sent GBP 25 million (about UAH 768 million) in financial aid to the NBU’s special account. This is the largest one-off transfer in British pounds that Ukraine has received from foreign donors to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the war.

“The NBU would like to express its sincere gratitude to the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office  for this significant donation to support not only Ukraine’s defense of its freedom and independence but also global peace and democratic values. We highly appreciate our partnership with the UK government and are thankful for everything it has been doing to support Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression,” said the NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko.

He also added that in times of war Ukraine like never before appreciates strong support from the entire UK nation.  In particular, almost one-fifth of all FX donations that have been wired into the NBU’s special account for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (including contributions from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office) are denominated in British pounds.

By now, an equivalent of almost UAH 16.8 billion (including the FX equivalent of nearly UAH 5.2 billion  that came from abroad) has been transferred to the special account the NBU opened to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As previously reported, those willing to make donations to support the Ukrainian military can use the account information (for payments in hryvnias, U.S. dollars, euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars, Polish zlotys, and Australian dollars) or the template for card-based payments available here.
