Charitable Campaign Get a Coin for Donating to the Armed Forces of Ukraine Raises Almost UAH 8.6 million

The charitable fundraising campaign Get a Coin for Donating to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, organized by the NBU and PrivatBank to celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day, has come to a close.

From 24 August to 2 September, Ukrainians made donations to the campaign to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Every participant had the chance to win one of ten exclusive commemorative coins Oh, the Guelder-Rose in the Meadow (five of them made of silver, and the other five made of nickel silver) signed by NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

Participants had to donate UAH 1,000 using the "silver" QR-code or the relevant link to get chance to win a silver coin, and UAH 100 using the "nickel silver" QR-code or the relevant link for a chance to win a nickel silver coin.

During the ten-day chartable campaign, the NBU managed to raise UAH 8,595,317.91, in particular:

  • UAH 6,511,015.60 via the "silver" QR-code
  • UAH 2,084,302.31 via the "nickel silver" QR-code.

All the funds raised were immediately transferred to the NBU’s special account opened to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

More that 10,000 Ukrainians took part in the fundraising effort: almost 7,000 of them donated to win a silver Oh, the Guelder-Rose in the Meadow coin, while the other 3,000 donated to win the nickel silver coin.

On 5 September 2022, the NBU announced the winners of the unique commemorative coins during a live YouTube broadcast.

The following commemorative coins for the biggest donation were awarded to:

  • Valentyn Khutornyi for a donation of UAH 100,000 (silver coin)
  • Serhii Rubets for a donation of UAH 100,000 (nickel silver coin).

In addition, the following participants, who were selected through a random number service, will receive one commemorative coin each:

  • Mykhailo Levchenko, Tigran Torosian, Mariia Karpan, and Denys Shudria (silver coin)
  • Andrii Kushnir, Andrii Ozhyhanov, Ivan Feoktistov, and Illia Ilnytskyi (nickel silver coin).

"It is symbolic that the fundraising campaign Get a Coin for Donating to the Armed Forces of Ukraine lasted from Ukraine’s Independence Day until Hryvnia Day. No less symbolic was the large number of participants who took part in the event. It just shows that the Ukrainians are an incredibly united nation," said NBU Deputy Governor Oleksii Shaban. "We congratulate the winners and thank everyone who participated in this initiative." Every Ukrainian is joining the fight against the russian aggressor. No attacks, military confrontations, or air raid sirens will make us lay down our arms. We’re transforming our thirst for victory into a powerful force to fight harder for our independence and give more help to our defenders. We’re doing our best to bring our Victory closer!."

"Every single day Ukrainians make every effort to win the war: by fighting on the frontlines, working, volunteering, donating, supporting our fellow citizens, and believing in the Armed Forces of Ukraine," said Head of Retail Business at PrivatBank Dmytro Musiienko. "I’m grateful to all participants in the charity initiative, and happy to make these exclusive gifts to Ukrainians who wholeheartedly and strongly support our defenders."
