The National Bank of Ukraine takes measures to recover refinancing loans granted to insolvent banks. In particular, for the last half-year only, the NBU filed 35 new lawsuits on foreclosure of property of property guarantors of insolvent banks for a total amount of claims of UAH 4 billion.
In total, during 2014-2018, the NBU initiated 110 legal proceedings to recover arrears on loans with the funds of financial guarantors and mortgaged property guarantors.
Now, 89 cases on a total amount of claims of UAH 25 billion are being considered by courts of various instances. "The NBU is constantly and systematically working on recovering of debt with the funds and property of the guarantors of insolvent banks. However, it is difficult to say that this process is rapid because the guarantors, abusing their rights, constantly try to avoid fulfilling their obligations and delay the consideration of cases in the courts", - said Director of NBU Risk Management Department, Igor Budnyk.
Now, as a part of the enforcement measures under court decisions already adopted, NBU claims for the amount of half a billion hryvnias are satisfied at the expense of mortgaged property.
In 2017, the NBU received UAH 2.1 billion of debt repayment from the sale of collateral pledged against refinancing loans.
