The National Bank of Ukraine has revised its organizational structure and set up the Office for Critical Infrastructure Protection.
In line with the Law of Ukraine On Critical Infrastructure (Law), the NBU shall perform tasks and functions of an entity of the national system of critical infrastructure protection, a sectoral body in the area of critical infrastructure protection, and a critical infrastructure operator.
Previously, NBU Security Department performed some of the functions for protecting critical infrastructure. That said, the NBU set up a separate office within its structure to provide for its expanded functions in critical infrastructure protection in the financial sector and to improve its related performance.
The NBU’s Office for Critical Infrastructure Protection will ensure that the NBU develops and implements the state policy in the critical infrastructure protection and performs the functions assigned to the NBU by the Law.
The Office for Critical Infrastructure Protection belongs to the Payment Systems and Cash Circulation line headed by NBU Deputy Governor Oleksii Shaban.
“The NBU is constantly advancing protection of the critical infrastructure in the financial sector, especially in view of russia’s full-scale aggression. Setting up an independent specialized office will ensure continuous operation of the critical infrastructure facilities in the financial sector, effective protection against threats, and uninterrupted provision of financial services to the public,” said Oleksii Shaban.
At present, the NBU will screen and select candidates to fill the position of the head of the newly set-up office.
