NBU Requests SWIFT to Disconnect russia’s Central Bank

The National Bank of Ukraine has appealed to the leadership of SWIFT to disconnect the central bank of the russian federation from the SWIFT messaging system.

This will tighten the international financial isolation of russia and serve as an effective tool for counteracting russia's aggression in finance.

"We ask SWIFT to join the international community and increase financial pressure on the aggressor state.  We hope for your support and cooperation in saving the lives of Ukrainians and preserving the sovereignty of our country," NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko said.

For reference

SWIFT is an international interbank system for messaging and payments. Remittances through SWIFT are bank-account-to-bank-account transfers. Nearly 11,000 banks and financial institutions in more than 200 countries use SWIFT services.
