NBU Reinforces Quality of Regulator’s Strategic Function

Under the Strategy of the National Bank of Ukraine (the NBU), the regulator is qualitatively strengthening its strategic function and the structural unit in charge – the Strategy and Reforming Department.

"To reach the ambitious strategic goals and meet new challenges, the NBU must rediscover the quality of its team’s potential and update its approaches to reforms implementation. Accelerating this process requires a new leader – a chief NBU strategist – which is why the NBU Board has decided to announce a competition to fill the vacancy of Director of the Strategy and Reforming Department," said NBU Deputy Governor Roman Borysenko.

Up until the new leader takes office, Mykhailo Vidiakin will be Acting Director of the Strategy and Reforming Department. As the future Deputy Director and Head of the Strategy and Transformation Office, he will focus on managing a portfolio of projects as part of the NBU’s further internal transformation. Additionally, Mykhailo Vidiakin will continue to coordinate the operation of the external project office to support the financial sector reforms.

"A successful implementation of projects under the Comprehensive Program for Financial Sector Development is vital for preserving the course and progress of the financial sector reforms, in particular the central bank reform. Mykhailo Vidiakin has the potential to ensure the success of this effort and the continuity of this process. Under his supervision, we have been able to achieve impressive results: we have launched and successfully implemented the strategic, planning, and process management function; we have conducted the central bank’s internal transformation; our efforts have driven the regulator’s successful transition to a new organizational design. The NBU has become a modern-day institution whose positive transformations have already inspired other central banks in the world, and so we must maintain the quality of these changes going forward," Roman Borysenko said.

As for the vacancy, the future Director of the Strategy and Reforming Department will have to prioritize facilitating the development of Ukraine’s banking and financial sector by launching new directions and instruments of financial markets’ development, by directly participating in organizing and implementing projects related to financial sector development programs, by ensuring the implementation of the NBU’s strategic initiatives at the interagency level throughout the process, and by maintaining the relevance of the NBU’s Strategy and organizational development as an institution.
